Notes From the Studio / Vol. 03
Website Woes (and Wins)
After months of promising myself I’d get round to it, I finally tackled my website updates and added a bunch of new projects. It’s about 95% there (because let’s be honest, it’s never really finished). But it’s looking fresh and full of the work I’ve loved creating lately. A small reminder that your own brand deserves time and attention too — even when you’re knee-deep in everyone else’s.
Creative Sparks
I made it to the Glasgow School of Art Degree Show and came away feeling inspired in all kinds of ways. Favourites included the Fine Art paintings, especially the collection by Gabriella Burns (pic above - I couldn’t not share it) were striking, and there were some brilliant concepts from the Interior Design graduates, from buildings reimagined for people and community to clever use of space and light.
That theme of community really hit home. I’ve been thinking a lot about how to bring more connection to where I live, especially since our local community centre shut its doors a few years ago. I’m now exploring the idea of starting something new in the village and looking at ways to bring more connection into our village, which has lacked a real gathering place since the community centre closed. A shared space or groups for old and young people, and just plain human connection. It’s what is desperately needed. If you’ve done something similar or have thoughts, hit me up.
What’s New
I’ve just shared a first look at the Text From A Friend Wedding stationery — a semi-bespoke collection that mixes my signature handwritten style with luxury papers, hand foiling, and all the good stuff. It’s launching soon, and I’ve written a blog about the process and why it matters — not just for brides, but for people who want wedding stationery that feels like them. A bit bold, a bit romantic, a lot less ‘cookie cutter.’ I wrote a blog about it too, if you're curious.
It’s a new branch of the Text From A Friend universe, joining the Text From A Kid range — because everyone deserves stationery with personality, even the under-10s and the nearly-weds.
Wearing All The Hats
It’s been one of those weeks where I’ve found myself switching between designer, strategist, writer, campaign-planner, email-answerer, and general life-juggler. Managing multiple projects (and businesses) means the to-do list is long — but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s busy, it’s a bit chaotic, but it’s also full of good humans doing good work — and that’s what I’m here for.
What’s in my ears and on my desk:
🎙 Podcast: Mindful Creative with Radim Malinic — gentle reminders and creative nudges
📖 Book: The Buddha of Suburbia by Hanif Kureishi — it’s chaotic, clever, and totally up my street
🎶 Playlist: Late Nite Tuff Guy — disco for the soul
🌿 Mood booster: Planting 101 plants (literally) and trying not to kill them. So far…not too bad.
Til next time, Sharon :)
