Notes From the Studio / Vol. 02
Some weeks feel like a full sketchbook. This was one of them.
Monday:
Off I went to London and had the day to myself — solo travel is the best kind of travelling, don’t you think? I jumped off the train at London Bridge and wandered down to the Tate Modern. I was lucky enough to catch Do Ho Suh’s exhibition. If you get the chance, go. It’s delicate, thoughtful and makes you look at space — and the way we move through it and around it — completely differently. Also, the details of what and how he creates his pieces are mind-blowing. I also tried (unsuccessfully) to track down another Labubu for my niece, but alas, the Labubu hunt continues.
Tuesday:
I joined over 300 other small business founders at Holly Tucker’s Congregation of Inspiration — a full-on day of talks, chats, and incredible humans who are all building businesses with meaning and are sellers on her B Corp marketplace Holly & Co. (This is where I sell my Text From A Friend products). Talks from advertising legend Sir John Hegarty (a personal hero), Charlie Gladstone, Mo Gawdat and soul-filled words and poems from Donna Ashworth filled the room with creative energy. I came away with a notebook of scribbles, a head full of thoughts, and about 12 new ideas.
Thursday:
Back in Glasgow for Adobe’s Create Now event, where the brilliant Craig Black gave a talk. It was a great chance to catch up with creative pals, meet a few new ones, and remember how talented this city really is. A good reminder that inspiration is always closer than you think — sometimes just a train ride or a ten-minute walk away.
What’s in my ears and on my desk:
🎧 Podcast: Staying Relevant – guilty-pleasure brilliance and background chaos from the hosts. Go listen.
📚 Book: I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman – haunting and atmospheric, it’s been lingering in my mind all week.
📖 Audiobook: Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? – bite-sized therapy, basically.
🎶 Playlist: Studio Sessions – Vol. 1 – a new weekly disco-inspired playlist I’ve started curating to keep the creative vibes flowing. Think Glitterbox energy, rollerskate-worthy rhythms and shape-shifting bangers. Have a listen while you work, walk or dance around the kitchen.
🛼 Mood-Booster: Rollerskating with my niece, still up there at the top of the list.
Til next time, Sharon :)
